Seven policemen have been apprehended and detained by the Anambra State command over an alleged N500,000 extortion.
The money has equally been returned to the owner by the Police Commissioner Monday Kuryas, who pledged to prosecute the culprits after investigations.
Their arrest followed a petition from a citizen of the state.
It was further gathered that the victim was an Onitsha based businessman.
A source said the extortion was perpetrated in Onitsha, it was learnt.
Police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed that the arrest followed a petition by a citizen against some men of the Command.
“The sum of N500,000 extorted from the victim was also recovered intact and returned to him and the officers charged with misconduct in line with extant disciplinary procedure of the Force,” Tochukwu said.
