The All Progressive Congress (APC) has allayed fears of proponents of restructuring about its determination to restructure Nigeria, assuring that measures taken by President Muhammadu Buhari towards the implementation of the report of 2014 National Conference and the report of the Nasir El-Rufai- led APC committee on true federalism was testament that restructuring is ongoing.
This was disclosed by the APC through its September edition of in-house monthly magazine, ‘The Progressive’. The electronic copy of the magazine titled, ‘Calm Down! Restructuring has begun’ was released on Monday, Punch reports.
The party said previous administrations had expended billions of naira to organise national conferences while the recommendations raised were never implemented.
According to the APC, unlike past attempts that only paid lip service to restructuring, Buhari is committed and taken steps to actualize part of the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference as well as those of the 2017 Governor Nasir El-Rufai-chaired APC panel on True Federalism, which birthed rich recommendations.
The publication pointed out poverty reduction and social inclusion as well as economic diversification as recommendations implemented by President Buhari.
It said, “With these aforementioned fundamental reforms being introduced into the nation’s polity already in place, and with many more still in the pipeline, Nigeria under President Muhammadu Buhari is on the path of an irreversible political and economic rejuvenation. To the advocates of restructuring, calm down, the exercise has begun in earnest.”
