The Academic Staff Union of Universities has reached an agreement to call off its eight-month strike action which has halted academic activities in the country’s public varsities.
The leadership of ASUU reached the agreement during a meeting with the Federal Government team headed by Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment on Friday.
Part of the agreements was the increment of the total sum to the union to N70 billion.
The development comes after the Federal Government a week ago ceded to ASUU’s demand of being left out of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). The government agreed to deploy the old payment system pending the conclusion of integrity test on the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), developed by the union.
