The Nigerian Army has raised the alarm that the Islamic West Africa Province and Boko Haram terrorists are purchasing Improvised Explosive Devices.
It said the terrorists were planning to unleash terror on innocent Nigerians to remain relevant after the sects must have been decimated.
It disclosed this in a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, on Thursday.
Onyema said 281 bags of 50kg of urea fertiliser used to produce IEDs had been recovered and two distributors were arrested as troops raided IED hubs in the Damboa and Gashua local government areas of Borno and Yobe states, respectively.
He also said a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, who had been on the wanted list of the Nigerian Army, had been arrested.
Onyema said the suspect, identified as Yawi Modu, was nabbed along the Damboa-Wajiroko Road by the troops of Sector 2 following a tip-off.
The statement was titled, ‘Troops arrest high-profiled Boko Haram terrorist, raid IED materials hub in the North-East’.
It read in part, “ISWAP criminals facing the reality of obvious depletion are desperately acquiring IED materials to make explosive devices with which to unleash terror on innocent civilians in a bid to remain relevant and present a posture of potency.
“In a sting operation conducted, a total of 281 bags of 50kg of urea were recovered from the warehouses in the market and two notorious BHT distributors were also arrested.

“Urea fertiliser has been banned by the government because it is used as a major component for manufacturing IED by terrorists. The suspects and materials recovered are currently undergoing preliminary investigation.
“Also, following a tip-off, a wanted BH/ISWAP terrorist, one Yawi Modu, who had been on the wanted list, was nabbed along the Damboa-Wajiroko Road by troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai.”
