The National Coordinator of the Benue Youth Forum, Terrence Kuanum has stated that the Federal Government is trying hard to change the Benue killing narrative.

According to him, “Benue people know their killers” and have provided the FG with the information. However, he said that the Federal Government was rather tacitly supporting the killing by not bringing the perpetrators to book.

He noted that the FG appeared to be more interested in changing the narrative, and seeking to divert attention from the main issue which is that the killings are being perpetrated by the cattle breeders under the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria and not by any other group or criminals as claimed by the Federal Government.

He sited attempts by the military to blame the killings on one of Governor Ortom’s aids, a step which he said the military took to cover their shameful operation in the state.

He also wondered why the FG should be more interested in having the Anti-Grazing bill reversed than supporting the state government by ordering security agencies to implement the law.

According to him, with the Governor constitutionally unable to wield any form of control over the Police, Military and other security agencies, it is left for the FG to direct these agencies to implement the law made by the State Government.

He also claimed that all they had been getting were verbal promises without anything tangible to show. According to him, the Benue people want to the fulfillment of the promises made by the FG to be as tangible as the killings are.

The people of Benue expect the prosecution of the leadership of Miyetti Allah to put out a strong signal that will act as a deterrent to other would be killers.

Kuanum made these observations while on the TVCNews breakfast show this morning 6th June 2018.
