At least 15 individuals have been tragically killed in separate assaults by Fulani Militias targeting the communities of Bwai and Chisu within the Mangu local government area of Plateau State.
According to reports, these incidents occurred late at night on Tuesday while residents were asleep. Per investigations, the attackers simultaneously invaded both communities, engaging in acts of violence and setting fire to any structure in sight.
An eyewitness named Bamshak Ishaya alleged that during the attack in Chisu village at around 11:00 pm on Tuesday, some individuals sought refuge at the house of a community leader, only to be killed by Fulani militias. It was further learned that the COCIN RCC Church in Bwai, situated along the Mangu-Bokkos Road, was also engulfed in flames, along with numerous houses, vehicles, and tricycles.
Eyewitnesses from the affected communities reported hearing sporadic gunshots and fleeing to the residence of their community leader. Tragically, the militants set the house ablaze, resulting in the discovery of 11 charred bodies so far, with the search for additional victims still ongoing.

“In Bwai, besides the church, houses near the market were also set on fire, and a woman who slept in her shop was burned as well. We are unsure if there are other casualties yet to be found,” shared an eyewitness.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Bala Fwangje, the representative of Mangu South constituency in the state assembly, stated, “Around 11 pm, we received a call that herdsmen attacked Chisu and Bwai. This morning, we received reports that approximately 15 people were killed, houses were destroyed, and numerous properties were burned. I have yet to receive the full details.”
Similarly, Mr. Markus Artu, the interim management committee chairman of Mangu LGA, informed reporters that the incident had occurred, but he did not possess the comprehensive information at that time.
“I am currently gathering information. I am heading for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. We have conflicting reports coming in. Security agencies mentioned that there was an attempted attack that was repelled. However, other sources are recounting different stories. I heard there was an attempt to burn down the church but it was thwarted. I do not have concrete facts; whatever I heard is speculative. I will inform you as soon as I have accurate information,” stated Artu.
Unfortunately, the Plateau State Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Afred Alabo, could not be reached for comment at the time of compiling this report.
