A united Nations aid helicopter has been attacked by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State, Nigeria.
UN reports that the insurgents attacked the helicopter on Thursday in Damasak, Borno State, killing civilians, among whom were a five-year-old child.
The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon said on Saturday that the casualties and people injured were not on board during the attack.
Kallon in a statemen said, “A UN Humanitarian Air Service helicopter was hit by bullets during the attack. No aid workers were on board at the time and crew members are all safe.”
UN communique reported that the terrorists shot the helicopter as it made its way towards Damasak and the pilots managed to make a return to Maiduguri, AFP reports.
