Zambia Moves To Abolish Death Penalty

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has announced he is making moves to abolish the death penalty in the country. He termed it a "big decision" by the government. “We will work with parliament to run this process as we transition away from the death penalty and focus on the preservation, and rehabilitation of life while still delivering justice for all,” he said on the eve of Wednesday’s Africa Freedom Day. “This is important. Rihanna To Launch Fenty Beauty Products In Africa

Rihanna has announced that her Fenty Beauty and Fenty Skin products will become available in eight African countries from the end of this month. In a social media post, the pop star said she had "been waiting for this moment" and that this was "just the beginning". Following the uproar generated by the recent reports that Dangote Cement Plc sells cement at a higher price than it sells to other countries, Zambia notably, its management has clarified that a bag of cement from its factories and plants across Nigeria (as of 12th April 2021) is N2,450 in Obajana and Gboko and N2,510 in Ibese, VAT inclusive. Reports recently surfaced that Dangote cement sells for 110 Kwacha in Zambia which is equivalent to about N1,800 in naira, while Nigerian consumers buy the same product for at least N3,500. Zambia President Fires Health Minister Chilufya

Zambia’s presidency on Sunday announced the sacking of the country’s health minister, arrested for alleged graft last year but cleared of charges. Chitalu Chilufya, 48, was held in June following accusations he used ill-gotten gains to acquire property. A court cleared him of the charges in August due to lack of evidence and he resumed his duties.
