Insecurity: Yahaya Bello Bans Use of Facemasks, Closes Brothels

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has banned the wearing of facemasks in the public to help with the identification of people in the State.   This was disclosed during an emergency security meeting held in Lokoja on Tuesday. The governor issued the directive during a meeting with traditional rulers, and local government council chairmen in the State. He tasked traditional rulers to take charge of looking out for their locality, ensuring the safety and peace of the people. He said, “Ensuring peaceful coexistence in your domain is your exclusive responsibility. Govs Disown Yahaya Bello COVID-19 Claim

Members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) have dissociated themselves from the reported claim by Kogi Governor Yahaya that coronavirus vaccines are meant to kill people and reduce population. The Governors, in a communiqué at the end of their virtual meeting on Wednesday, said their decisions and actions in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic would be guided by science and informed opinions. “On the ill-fated pronouncement made by a member of the forum, regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, in a national daily, the forum (NGF) totally and categorically dissociated itself from the statement. “The forum will continue to be informed and guided by science and will ensure that every decision it takes retains public and professional trust and is not compromised by conflicts of interest.” ...

Court Requests Kogi Govt.To Pay Impeached N180m Owed Allowances Deputy Governor

The National Industrial Court in Abuja has asked the Kogi State Government to pay former deputy governor of the state, Simon Achuba, who was impeached in October 2016, N180m in unpaid security votes for 16 months. Channels TV reports that he had approached the court seeking for N921,572,758 for security vote, monthly imprest, traveling allowances, outstanding memos and statutory allocations due to his office as then deputy governor. The judgment, which was read on Wednesday by Justice Oyebiola Oyewunmi, said the sum of N180m will be paid to Achuba as outstanding security votes due to him from April 2018 to August 2019.
