Voter Registration In Imo Remains Suspended, INEC Tells Uzodimma

Hope Uzodimma The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has debunked the claim by Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State Governor, that the commission has resumed the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in places where the exercise was earlier suspended in the state. INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, who gave the clarification in a statement, yesterday, said the position of the commission had not changed. INEC Mulls Making NIN Compulsory for Voter Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is considering making the National Identity Number, NIN, compulsory for registering voters when the continuous voter registration exercise begins soon. This was disclosed by a national commissioner at INEC during an interview with The Punch on Tuesday. According to him, the Nin would help tackle challenges of underage voting, alien voting and other challenges associated with registration. The INEC commissioner who chose to remain anonymous said a final decision would be reached soon.
