Nigerian Military Imposes Curfew As ISWAP Terrorists Again Attack Borno Community

The Nigerian military has imposed a curfew in Askira Uba and its environs in Borno State as troops repelled another attack in the axis. According to PRNigeria, ISWAP fighters on Monday launched an attack on Dille which was swiftly repelled by the combined efforts of Air Taskforce and ground troops. Dille is a village in Lassa under Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. An intelligence source said that the Nigerian troops have remained vigilant and combat-ready having got information on the movements of terrorists in some villages. “We got intelligence that ISWAP Fighters were moving towards a bridge East of Wamdeo and Roumirgou villages in Askira Uba Province. FG Replies US-based Organisation, Denies Sponsoring Terrorism

The Federal Government has said the allegation by a US-based non-profit organisation that the Nigerian government was sponsoring terrorism is “a disgusting distraction orchestrated by those seeking to weaken the ongoing massive onslaught against terrorism and banditry.” The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement on Sunday, said “the so-called Global Advocates for Terrorism Eradication is a pesky irritant that should be ignored, especially because it is as confused as it is irresponsible.” He said, “This organisation called GATE is not even worth the ink with which its name is written. How can a serious organisation accuse a government that is tackling the twin evil of terrorism and banditry with uncommon determination of sponsoring terrorism? “Is ...

Buhari Mourns Soldiers Killed By ISWAP Terrorists

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the families of soldiers killed by fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno state. The terrorists on Saturday morning invaded Askara town in Askira Uba LGA of Borno state in a long convoy of gun trucks and engaged the troops in gun duel. The army has confirmed that a gallant senior officer brigadier-general Dzarma Zirkusu and three soldiers were killed by the insurgents while on their way to supports troops who were fighting the terrorists.   See Also: Troops Kill Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists In Pulka Reacting to the soldiers’ death, President Buhari in a statement issued by his media aide, Garba Shehu, said the deceased paid the supreme sacrifice in a very rare display of gallantry. US Asks Nigeria To Restrict Super Tucano To North

The United States Government says the Federal Government is expected to deploy the Super Tucano aircraft only in the northern part of the country where Boko Haram terrorists have engaged the Nigerian state in a decade-long insurgency killing thousands and displacing millions. This, therefore, precludes the possibility of the Federal Government deploying the security equipment in the South-East despite the designation of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra as a terrorist organisation and the setting up of the armed Eastern Security Network by IPOB. The South-East has been the epicentre of a secessionist agitation threatening to break up the country. Briefing journalists earlier in the week, the US Principal Deputy National Security Advisor, Jonathan Finer, at an event attend...

Terrorists Who Tried To Overthrow Me Are In Nigeria –Turkey President

The President of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, says the terrorists who tried to remove him through a coup in 2016 are still active in Nigeria. Erdogan said this on Wednesday at a joint press conference with President Muhammadu Buhari, on the occasion of his two-day official visit to the country. Recall that Erdogan had in 2016 accused allies of renowned cleric, Fethullah Gulen, who own Turkish schools and hospitals across Nigeria, of sponsoring the coup. Turkish envoy in Nigeria, Mr. Hakan Cakil, had at the time called on Buhari to close the Turkish schools and hospitals in Nigeria belonging to a group of private Turkish investors who are inspired by the philosophy of the Hizmet movement. The Nigerian government had, however, rejected the proposal, causing tension between both countri...

Troops Raid Markets Where Terrorists Buy IED Materials to Make Explosives

The Nigerian Army has raised the alarm that the Islamic West Africa Province and Boko Haram terrorists are purchasing Improvised Explosive Devices. It said the terrorists were planning to unleash terror on innocent Nigerians to remain relevant after the sects must have been decimated. It disclosed this in a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, on Thursday. Onyema said 281 bags of 50kg of urea fertiliser used to produce IEDs had been recovered and two distributors were arrested as troops raided IED hubs in the Damboa and Gashua local government areas of Borno and Yobe states, respectively. He also said a suspected Boko Haram terrorist, who had been on the wanted list of the Nigerian Army, had been arrested. Onyema said the su...

Why Some Boko Haram Repentant Terrorists Should Be Prosecuted – Senator Ndume

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South constituency, has asked for some repentant Boko Haram insurgents that have blood on their hands to be investigated and prosecuted. Recall that weeks ago, the media was agog with reports of repeated surrenders of Boko Haram terrorists to the Nigerian military. More than 2,000 terrorists were reported to have surrendered and branded ‘repentant’ by the Army, claiming adherence to international laws relating to ‘enemies willing to surrender’. Some Nigerians have kicked against the de-radicalisation and rehabilitation initiative for the insurgents by the Nigerian army under the Safe Corridor programme. Speaking on Saturday after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, in Abuja, Ndume maintained that the former insurgents cannot be let o...

Nigeria Won’t Tolerate Secessionists – NSA

Major General Babagana Monguno (retd.), the National Security Adviser, has said that Nigeria will never harbour any group of secessionists or terrorists seeking to destabilise another friendly sovereign country. Monguno said this on Tuesday during his speech at the opening ceremony of the eighth session of the Cameroon-Nigeria transborder security committee meeting at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja. The National Security Adviser also called for the activation of the Local Bilateral Committees to help integrate local communities in the fight against terrorism and other forms of insecurity in Nigeria and Cameroon. It’s Hard To Reintegrate Boko Haram members Who Shed Blood For 12 Years – Shehu Of Borno

The Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi, and other traditional leaders in Borno State have expressed reservations about incorporating repentant Boko Haram members into their communities after the harm they have caused. They expressed fears over the de-radicalisation of repentant members of Boko Haram by the Nigerian Army under its Safe Corridor programme. However, El-Kanemi said the idea was relatively welcome but noted that the people would continue to be haunted by the horrors of the 12-year insurgency, especially residents of communities where the repentant insurgents are to be incorporated. “The Safe Corridor programme of the Nigerian Army led to the de-radicalisation of repentant terrorists in Gombe State. But it will be very difficult if not impossible for us to reintegrate t...

SERAP Issues Buhari 24 Hours Ultimatum To Withdraw NBC Order On Reporting of Terrorism

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has issued an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him to use his office “to urgently instruct Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture, and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to withdraw the directive containing a gag order banning journalists and broadcast stations from reporting details of terrorist attacks and victims across the country.” Recall that NBC had in a letter dated July 7, 2021 ordered journalists, television, and radio stations in Nigeria to stop “glamourizing and giving too many details on the nefarious activities of terrorists and kidnappers” during their daily newspaper reviews. SERAP in its reaction in a letter dated 17 July 2021 and signed by its deputy director, Kolawole Ol...
