Ekiti Govt. Includes N550m Budget For drones Used To Fight Kidnapping, Banditry

Ekiti State Government has said efforts are on to procure sophisticated drones as part of efforts to boost surveillance, expose criminal hideouts and combat insecurity. Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Mr. Femi Ajayi disclosed this at the weekend during the breakdown of the 2021 Appropriation Law with a budgetary provision of N109.666 billion. He said the government projected N550 million to purchase the drones as part of plans to tackle armed robbery, banditry and kidnapping. The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has resumed the enrollment service for the National Identity Number, NIN, in its offices across the country, the commission said on Friday. According to the commission, the disruption occasioned by the planned strike action by the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, had been resolved. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has issued a stern warning to Nigerians seeking to purchase the National Identity Number from individuals who have already enrolled that they stand a chance of being prosecuted. The Federal Government has outlined new conditions for telecommunication service subscribers to have their lost, stolen, misplace or damaged SIM cards replaced. Following the directive by the Federal Government for compulsory linking of National Identification Number (NIN) to SIM cards, the National Identity Management Commission has launched a Mobile App for the enrollment of the NIN by applicants. The Federal Government has extended the deadline for the provision of National Identification Number (NIN) by telecommunication service subscribers as part of SIM registration to February 9, 2021. This was contained in a statement released on Monday jointly signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Umar Danbatta; and Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz. SIM Registration: FG Cancels USSD NIN Retrieval Fee

Following the new directive on linking National Identification Number to SIM cards, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Ibrahim has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission and the National Identity Management Commission to discontinue the N20 USSD fee incurred by subscribers for NIN retrieval requests. The NCC had earlier mandated telecommunication providers to block SIM cards not registered with NIN. Federal Government recently approved 172 centres and 30 state government institutions for NIN enrolment across the country. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has in line with the Federal Government’s directive on the harmonisation of citizen’s data by relevant agencies, mandated the use of National Identity Number (NIN) for driver’s licences processing.
