AFCON Qualifiers: Akpeyi, Etebo, Uzoho, Osihmen Return

The coach of Nigeria's super eagles Gernot Rohr has submitted the list of players who will feature in the AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone on November 13. OwngoalNigeria reports that Daniel Akpeyi, Oghenekaro Etebo, Joel Aribo, Francis Uzoho and Victor Osihmen are among the five players who are set to stage a return to the team following their absence in the team's double friendlies early October. Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will make the list public next week but it was gathered that invitations are already being sent to the players invited. The Super eagles will host Sierra Leone in a double header AFCON qualifier with the first being played in Benin city, Nigeria before the second leg encounter in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr has invited 25 players ahead of October’s friendly matches against Cote d’Ivoire and Tunisia, billed for Austria. The German tactician named five others to be on standby. Nigeria this afternoon thrashed the Pirates of Seychelles 3:0. This is the Super Eagle's second match in group E of the 2019 Afican Nations Cup qualifiers. Nigeria scored the first goal through Ahmed Musa in the 15th minute of the match. Chigozie Awaziem made it two in the 34th minute when he tapped in a a ball that rebounded from the upright off an Iheanacho freekick. In the 57th minute of the second half, Odion Ighalo made it 3 from the penalty spot after was brought down in the box. Nigeria will now take on Libya on the 10th of October in Nigeria.

Assistant coach of the Super Eagles and current coach of the Nigerian team to the 2020 Olympics was caught on camera taking bribe to feature certain players. The Video which was Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas showed Yusuf being paid about $1000 with a promise of more financial incentives should the players be selected. Salisu Yusuf currently earns about N3 Million monthly which amounts to about $8,300. It is therefore scandalous that a bribe of $1000 would be attractive to him, There have always been rumours that Nigerian coaches demand financial settlements to feature players, which many times explains the inclusion of unqualified players and the exclusion of qualified ones.
