World Cup: Russia Opens 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 5:0 Win Over Saudi Arabia

Hosts Russia began their World Cup campaign on a positive note with a convincing 5:0 win over Saudi Arabia. Iury Gazinsky scored the first goal of the tournament in the 12th minute, relieving the Russians of some pressure. Denis Cheryshev doubled their lead in the 43rd minute sending the Russian fans into a frenzy. The Saudi's fought back in the second half, having a lot of possession but not doing much with. It's an already known fact that the kit of the Nigerian Super Eagles took center stage. Following in this path, the Super Eagles traveled to Russia in a stylish traditional outfit that is already trending. The outfit which was designed by Nigerian designers David Bowler was to have been used at the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil but was replaced at the last minute. There is no doubt that the Nigerians have made a very good impression with their kit and outfits. It is now left for them to carry over this trend of excellence unto the pitch of play. Sports: Nigeria Beat Gambia 6:0 to Qualify for AWCON

The Nigerian Super Falcons beat the Queen Scorpions of Gambia by 6:0 yesterday in Lagos to qualify for the 11th African Women Cup of Nations. The Nigerians had earlier beaten the Gambians on their home turf 1:0. This brings the aggregate score to 7:0. Having won 9 out of the 10 previous AWCON championships, the Nigerians are set to win a 10th title. Teams that have also qualified for the finals include: Hosts Ghana, Algeria, Zambia, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Mali and South Africa.

Sports: Nigerian Super Eagles Lose 0:1 to Czech Republic

In its final friendly before traveling to Russia for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Nigerian Super Eagles this afternoon lost 0:1 to Czech Republic. In a game that was largely uninspiring, the Super Eagles conceded the only goal of the match in the 25th minute of the first half and were not able to get any past the Czech goalkeeper till the end of the first half. Upon resumption, the game was halted at about the 60th minute as a result of the heavy rains and wind that hampered play. When the game resumed, the Super Eagles took full control of the game, but could not convert the possession to a goal. Nigeria will be facing Croatia in the first of their 2018 World Cup games on June 16.

The replica of the Nigerian Super Eagle's kit which was released for sale to the public on June 1 has sold out on the first day with about three million pre-orders. People were seen queuing up outside Nike's store in London in a bid to get the kit which sold for Ā£64.95 (about N32,000). The Nigerian kit appears to have won them new fans even as Nigerians encourage the Super Eagles to go to the world cup and be as successful as their kit's launch was.
