House Of Zamfara Speaker, Others Set Ablaze By Bandits

Bandits have set the home of the Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasiru Muazu Magarya, and other residents ablaze in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Chairman of the Committee on Security and Prosecution of Bandits in Zamfara State, Abdullahi Shinkafi, confirmed the incident on Monday. He said the bandits invaded the community and set ablaze some houses including that of the speaker. According to him, this was coming as a result of the ongoing onslaught by the military in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state. The Chairman of the committee, who visited the affected community to assess the security situation, said the government also wanted to provide support for victims and deploy more security operatives to protect the people. Gunmen Free About 70 Abducted Zamfara School Pupils After 12 Days In Captivity

Pupils of Government Secondary School, Kaya, in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State numbering about 70 have been freed from captivity. Their abduction of 73 students of the school by suspected bandits was confirmed by the the state police command on September 1. The pupils were abducted on September 1 following which the state governor, Bello Matawalle, ordered the closure of all primary and secondary schools in the state. The governor also imposed a 6:00 p.m. to 6:00a.m. curfew in 14 local government areas of the state. The Nigerian Television Authority reported the news on its Facebook page overnight. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed viral images and videos that show the dumping of dead bodies into mass graves, ostensibly from military operations. Maj-Gen. Benjamin Sawyerr, Director of Defence Information, issued a statement on Sunday in Abuja dismissing the images and videos. Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar approved the recruitment of 270 herdsmen as additional teachers in the nomadic schools in the state. Three officers of the Delta State Police Command have been shot dead, with their corpses set on fire. The officers attached to Umutu Divisional Police Headquarters were killed at a checkpoint along the Obeti/Oliogo Road in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state. Insecurity: GSM Operators Comply With FG’s Order, Shut Over 240 Zamfara Base Stations

GSM operators in Zamfara State have shut down their base stations in state in compliance with the order of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, that all telecom sites in Zamfara State be shut down due to the “pervading security situation” in the state. A source in the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria told Sunday Punch that all the telcos had complied with the directive. Recall that a leaked memo signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta, which was addressed to one of the telecom operators on Friday, stated that the immediate shutdown of all telecommunications services had become necessary due to the insecurity in the state.
