A 76-year-old grandfather, Osagie Robert has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA in Edo state where a suspected fake security agent, Godwin Ilevbare, a.k.a Edwin Agbon was also arrested for importing drug chocolates and cookies from Canada into Nigeria to sell. The septuagenarian popularly called old soldier was arrested on Friday 7th January, 2022 in Egor, Oredo area of the state for dealing in Cannabis while Godwin was nabbed during a controlled delivery of a consignment shipped into Nigeria through a courier company. Ike Ekweremadu Visits Nnamdi Kanu With Some Igbo Leaders

Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has said that he visited leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, in the custody of the Department of State Services. Though he did not specify the date and time of his visit to Kanu, he said his visit was in line of seeking political solution for the release of the IPOB leader. Enugu Calls Emergency Security Meeting As Suspected Herdsmen Kill Scores

The Enugu State Government has summoned an emergency meeting with all the security heads and stakeholders in the Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of the state. The meeting, which will hold on Saturday, is coming as herdsmen said to be on military and police uniforms on Thursday, attacked traders at Orie Ogbete Mgbuji market and killed many people. It was earlier reported that herdsmen sacked five village farm settlements in Mgbuji Eha-Amufu autonomous community on Tuesday and had since remained in those settlements destroying properties and burning houses. In a bid to safeguard the rail lines from attack, the federal government yesterday procured and handed over six hilux patrol vehicles inputed with radar scanners to the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to monitor the Abuja-Kaduna corridor. Nigerian Manufacturers’ Association Kicks Against Imposition Of Taxes On Carbonated, Soft Drinks

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has kicked against the imposition of taxes on soft drinks. The association warned that excise duty would lead to 0.43 per cent contraction in output and 40 per cent drop on industry revenues in the next five years. The Minister of Finance and Budget Planning, Zainab Ahmed, had announced the imposition of N10 tax per litre on all non-alcoholic, carbonated and sweetened beverages. Ahmed had stated that it was part of the government’s efforts to prevent and discourage excessive consumption of sugar due to health concerns. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his government took loans from China because the Asian country was willing to help Nigeria’s infrastructure. Buhari said this on Wednesday during an interview with Channels Television while defending his government’s decision to source loans from China. FG To Inaugurate Kano-Kaduna Railway December 2022

The Federal Government has expressed optimism that the Kano-Kaduna railway will be completed and ready for inauguration in Dec. 2022. Mr Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transportation, while inspecting the level of progress on the project in Kano, said that it would be commissioned before President Muhammadu Buhari leaves officer. Amaechi noted that so far, the Federal Government had invested more than 400 million dollars for the actualisation of the project.
