Protest in Zimbabwe: US Summons Zanu-PF Spokesperson Over Comments

The United states has summoned spokesman of the ruling Zanu-PF party in Zimbabwe after his disparaging comments about the US ambassador in Harare. Patrick Chinamasa, spokesperson of the ruling Zanu-PF party, on Monday labeled US Ambassador Brian Nicholls “a thug” and threatened to expel him. He accused the US envoy of inciting anti-corruption protests in the country. Tibor Nagy, top US diplomat for Africa said, “Comments from Zanu-PF — while sadly not surprising — are deeply offensive.” “We have summoned the ambassador of Zimbabwe to explain,” he wrote on Twitter. Nigerian Army Speaks on Southern Kaduna Killings, See its Position

The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports that the killings in Southern Kaduna are one-sided attacks. It stated that it was making effort at accelerated response to distress calls in steep terrain, raising the number of troops in the area and plans and coordinating with the Air Force for joint response. This was disclosed by Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major-General CC Okonkwo in a meeting of senior security officials on Tuesday with Kaduna State Governor El-Rufai on the killings in Southern Kaduna, reports say. Breach of Security Procedure and Assault on AVSEC Officer BY Head of DSS at the International Terminal of NAIA Abuja

We note with dismay that Mr Safiyanu Abba, the Head of DSS at NAIA deliberately obstructed airport Security process, and slapped an Aviation Security Officer who was performing his duty by calling on Mr Safiyanu Abba to desist from doing so. This happened on the 17th July at about 15:25 hours. He breached security procedure by obstructing further searching of a visitor who had just walked through the metal detector and activated the alarm. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria strongly condemns this abuse of power and the Security process in our airport. This has also been duly escalated. UPDATE: Nigerian Air Force Reveals Identity of Tolulope Arotile’s Killer

The Nigerian Air Force has disclosed the identity of the person responsible for the death of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile. Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information revealed the name of Arotile’s ex-classmate, who hit Nigeria’s first female combat helicopter pilot with a vehicle as “Mr Nehemiah Adejoh”. The Flying Officer sustained head injuries which led to her death on Wednesday after she was hit by a car driven by Adejoh at the NAF base in Kaduna State. In a report given after preliminary investigation, Daramola said that Arotile reunited with three of her erstwhile schoolmates at the Air Force Secondary School, renamed Air Force Comprehensive School, Kaduna, on the day of her death. Two BRT Buses Involved in a Head-on Collision

Two BRT buses were involved in a head-on collision on Monday at Asolo, Ikorodu road in Lagos while trying to avoid knocking down  Okada riders who were illegally plying the route. This was confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) via their official Twitter handle. The accident which occurred on the BRT corridor resulted in traffic gridlock as onlookers flood the scene of the crash. The Lagos State Government on Thursday destroyed a truckload of toxic “ponmo” which was seized a few days ago at Ijegun by the Igando/Ikotun Police Command. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Olayiwole Onasanya, made this known at the Medical Dumpsite, Ewu Elepe, Ikorodu, where the destruction of the toxic Ponmo took place.
