Buba Marwa Gives Them Bloody Nose By Femi Adesina

My first intervention some months back on the war against hard drugs use in the country was under the headline ‘Buba Marwa and the Bad Guys.’ And here I come again today, armed with facts on how the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has suddenly come alive under its Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa, and is giving a bloody nose to traffickers, peddlers and users of narcotic substances in the country. On Thursday last week, Gen. Marwa was our guest at the weekly State House Press Briefing. And what an illuminating session it was. He unfolded in graphic details, with video evidences, what has been going on in the drug war. He described 2021 as a year, “which in the annals of NDLEA is epochal, defined by the renewed war against abuse and trafficking of ...

Buhari’s Exit In 2023, Solution To Nigeria’s Problems – Afenifere

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Tuesday, said neither President Muhammadu Buhari nor his party, the All Progressives Congress, can solve the problems facing the country. The group said it had lost hope in Buhari solving the country’s problems, saying the exit of the President in 2023 will end the problems facing the country. The group’s acting leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, said this while addressing journalists after the group’s monthly meeting held in his Sanya -Ogbo residence, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The octogenarian accused the President of having a vested interest in the activities of herdsmen who he said, should have been declared terrorists. Adebanjo insisted that the group might not be part of the coming election if the country is not restructured...

Fuel Subsidy: Why Buhari Should Be Impeached – Sanusi Lamido

The dethroned emir of Kano and former Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Muhammadu Sanusi, has stated that the constitution allows President Muhammadu Buhari to be impeached for paying millions of dollars on fuel subsidies without appropriation. Sanusi stated this while speaking virtually as a panelist on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the just concluded Nigerian Economic Summit held in Abuja. “Every year, the government spends millions upon millions of dollars on fuel subsidies without appropriation. Under the constitution, this is enough ground to impeach the President. “But nobody is holding them to account. The National Assembly is not holding them to account,” he said. The former CBN governor said the federal government’s populist approach was hurting the nation....

Comparing Buhari To Awolowo, Azikiwe Mischievous – Afenifere Slams Femi Adesina

Yoruba’s socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has criticised presidency spokesperson, Femi Adesina, for comparing his boss, Muhammadu Buhari, to a former Premier of Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the first President of Nigeria, Nnamdi Azikiwe. The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, described the comparison made earlier by Adesina as “mischievous and mistaken” in a statement on Friday. Adesina had said, "I am old enough to have seen our colourful and even swashbuckling politicians in action. I have seen the great Obafemi Awolowo. The charismatic Nnamdi Azikiwe (Zik of Africa), Shehu Shagari, Aminu Kano, M.K.O Abiola, Bashir Tofa, and many others in action. “But I have not seen anyone with the kind of attraction, magnetic pull that Muhammadu Buhari has. An...

The Essential Buhari: VP Osinbajo Got It! By Femi Adesina

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is an honest man. Whatever he tells you, please take it serious. You can even take it to the bank, as it’s a cheque that will never bounce. Last weekend in London, while speaking with top officials of the Nigerian High Commission, VP Osinbajo said of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Mai Gaskiya (Honest Man): “The President is possibly the most popular Nigerian politician that we ever had in generations. He is possibly the only person, who can go into a place or somewhere without bossing people to gather and they will come and listen to him speak. “We need that level of credibility to be able to solve problems in our country. And I think because of his level of credibility, despite everything, he is still the only one that can call everyone, and even people...

The Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari that the fighter jets he is acquiring will be used to destroy the country. Recall that President Buhari, last week, confirmed receipt of new fighter jets which he said will be deployed against any form of insecurity in all parts of the country. Budget Deficit Rises to N20.64tn Under Buhari

The budget deficit has risen to N20.64tn under the president, Muhammadu Buhari, according to analysed data from the budget office. The data covered periods from 2016 to 2020. According to the budget office, more than N7.97tn was borrowed from foreign and domestic sources to fund these deficits. According to Investopedia, a budget deficit occurs when expenses exceed revenue and indicate the financial health of a country. The budget office said the Federal Government generated a revenue of N3.42tn to fund the budget in 2020. Weighty Matters About Our Country By Femi Adesina

Series of reactions have typically attended the October 1 broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari to mark the 61st anniversary of our Independence Day. These include the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. That’s democracy in action, with its propensity and predilections for freedom of speech. My motive in this piece is to consider parts of the broadcast that look into our very essence, our raison-d-etre as a country, and how the ties that bind can be further strengthened. Okay, let’s go. “Fellow Nigerians, the past 18 months have been some of the most difficult periods in the history of Nigeria. Since the civil war, I doubt whether we have seen a period of more heightened challenges than what we have witnessed in this period.” Factual. Straight as an arrow. Deadpan. Our Presid...
