DHQ Reacts to Alleged Coup Plot in Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters on Monday refuted the alleged plot to take over power from President Muhammadu Buhari, pledging its loyalty to the president. Nigeria had in 1999 returned to democratic rule after decades of military truncation of civilian governments. However, the country has had its fair share of challenges with several quarters clamouring for devolution of powers, fiscal federalism, restructuring and even outright secession. In its reaction, the DHQ in a statement signed by Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu warned politicians who nurse the ambition to rule Nigeria outside the ballot box, saying the military was committed to defending Nigeria’s democracy. The statement was titled, ‘Nigerian Military Remain Loyal To The Constitution A...

Nigeria Will Fly Again: We can Believe Kumuyi – Femi Adesina

You rarely hear his voice in public when it comes to secular or controversial issues. A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench. He just faces the work he is doing, and how very well he does it. Gently. But early this week, Pastor William Folorunsho (popularly known as WF) Kumuyi came out to speak. He addressed the media as part of a weeklong crusade titled ‘Soaring Above,’ holding electronically in Abuja and the 19 northern states. What did the simple, self-effacing man say? A lot, which can be distilled into the following points: *Nigeria is down today, faced by many challenges, but it can still fly again, if only the people can stop hate, killing and divisive utterances. *God is still interested in Nigeria, but we must eschew utterances that...

Femi Adesina: Zion Train is Coming Our Way

A quiet revolution took off on April 8, 2021, by 11.05 am. It was unheralded, without ostentation, almost unsung. But it was something that would have great impact not only on today, but also on tomorrow, and the future. On the date in question, a train took off from Warri, headed to Itakpe, bearing 96 pipelines to be used for the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipelines project, being undertaken by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). It was the first major haulage being undertaken through rail, using the standard gauge line constructed by the Muhammadu Buhari administration as part of the infrastructure renaissance in the country. Under that revolution, you have massive road projects, bridges, rail, airports, and many others. Quietly, significantly, without pomp, ...

Femi Adesina: Nigeria and War of Tongues

Our country is at war today on many fronts. Nigeria battles insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, armed robbery, cult killings, ritual murders, and war of tongues. War of tongues. Is that a new one? No, it’s as old as man, but it is perhaps the deadliest of all the wars. It is fiercer than insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, armed robbery, cult killings, ritual murders, all put together. A war of tongues has been unleashed on Nigeria, her leadership, anyone in government, in fact, anybody serving the country in one capacity or the other. Want to become an enemy of the public? Then just take a position in government, major or minor. Irrespective of where you were coming from, your stature and station in life, you become an enemy. You may have served creditably in the...
