Buhari Sends List of 19 RECs For Senate Confirmation

President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded a list of 18 nominees for appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to the Senate for confirmation. The request letter was read at the plenary by the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan.   According to President Buhari, his request was in line with the provisions of Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). Buhari noted that the list is comprised of five nominees whose appointments are to be renewed while 14 are to be appointed for the first time. Organ Harvesting: UK Court Denies Ike Ekweremadu Bail, Frees Wife

Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has been granted bail by a London court. Senate President_Ike_Ekweremadu Recall that Ike Ekweremadu and his wife were arrested by the Metropolitan Police, London, over an alleged conspiracy to harvest the organ of one David Ukpo Nwamini. Although Nwamini initially claimed to be 15 years of age, it has since been confirmed that he is actually over 18 years. Sanwo-Olu Approves Four Work-free Days For Workers To Register for PVC

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has approved 26th to 29th July as work-free days for workers in the State in a bid for them to register for or collect their Permanent Voters Cards before the exercise closes on July 30, 2022. This was contained in a statement issued by Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, the State Head of Service, on Monday. According to the statement, workers are to resume work with their PVCs after the exercise. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, has disclosed why he did not inform Alhaji Atiku Abubakar before leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in May. Recall that Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State decamped from the PDP to LP in May before the PDP held its presidential primary election. Atiku, PDP presidential flagbearer had disclosed during an interview on Arise Television, that Obi told him of his defection three days after dumping the PDP.
