Top government officials in Kenya will be made to take lie detector tests in the government's bid to fight corruption in the country. While announcing this, President Uhuru Kenyatta the test will be used to ascertain the integrity of its officials. He also said this move was one of the many processes the government will put in place in the fight against corruption. In celebration of this year's Biafra day on May 30th, Biafra agitators staged a sit-at-home protest which was said to have recorded about 95% compliance. The decision to stage sit-at-home protests to mark Biafra celebration day started last year as a result of the clamp down by Nigerian authorities on their non-violent street protests. According to Amnesty International, hundreds of unarmed protesters have been killed by the nation's security operatives at several peaceful protests. Uganda: President Museveni Imposes Tax on Social Media Usage to Curb Gossip

A new law has been passed by the Ugandan parliament to impose a social media tax on its citizens. The law which is billed to take effect from 1 July will see Ugandans paying 200 shillings ($0.05) as daily levy for the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and others. While pushing for the law, President Yoweri Museveni said that the use of these social media platforms greatly increased gossip. The President said the funds that will be generated from this tax will help the government manage the effects of gossip locally known as "olugambo". Nigeria: Nyame, Ex-Taraba Gov. Sentenced to 14 Years for N1.64bn Fraud

The former governor of Taraba state was on Wednesday sentenced to a 14 year jail term for misappropriation of funds to the tune of N1.64bn. The sentence was pronounced by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Gudu, Abuja. Jolly Tavoro Nyame was Governor of Taraba State from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. He also earlier served as the governor of the state from January 1992 to November 1993. In May 2007, the former governor was charged to court by the EFCC on 41 counts of criminal breach of trust, criminal misappropriation, taking gratification and obtaining valuable thing without consideration.
