In a simple announcement shared on social media, Saraki said "I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me to run for President. President Buhari has declared that his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) may not be able to match the financial capacity of the opposition. He also pointed out that the opposition was sponsoring attempts to discredit his administration. The president made these claims while receiving members of the Buhari Media Organization when they paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
