NLC Set to Meet Today Over Govs’ N380/Litre Petrol Proposal

The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress is set to meet today (Friday) to deliberate and reach a stance on the proposal by governors for the price of petrol to be hiked from N162/litre to N408.5/litre. On Wednesday, a committee working on the mandate of the Nigeria Governor’s Forum advocated for the full removal of petrol subsidy. It sought for the price of petrol to be fixed between N380/litre and N408.5/litre. In its reaction on Thursday, the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry urged the Federal Government to remove petrol subsidy gradually, considering its effect on the masses. FG, Labour to Meet Thursday Over Strike Action to Protest Electricity Tariff, Fuel Price Hike

The Federal Government is set to meet with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Trade Union Congress (TUC), on Thursday in an attempt to avert the planned indefinite strike by the organised labour to protest the spike in electricity tariff and fuel pump price. This was disclosed on Wednesday by Charles Akpan, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in an email. He said the meeting will serve as an avenue for FG to roll out its palliative plans. The mail read, “The Honourable Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige will be hosting a meeting with the Organised Labour.
