Ondo 2020: Akeredolu Wins Governorship Election

  Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress has won the Ondo governorship election held on Saturday. Mr Akeredolu, won in 15 of the state’s 18 local government areas while Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in the remaining three local governments based on the results announced by the electoral commission, INEC, at its headquarters in Abuja. The incumbent deputy governor in the state and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, came a distant third by scoring 69,127 votes.

Ondo Deputy Gov Accuses Security Agencies of Compromise

  The Deputy Governor of Ondo State who is also the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) Hon Agboola Ajayi has accused security operatives of compromise in the ongoing governorship election.   The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 7,079 personnel, sniffer dogs, alongside mobile surveillance vans to ensure security during the governorship election holding in Ondo State on Saturday.   The Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has dismissed reports circulating in mainstream media that it planned to merge with the Zenith Labour Party and compromise the candidature of its governorship standard-bearer, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede. The party debunked the reports in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Kennedy Peretei, on Saturday. According to a statement released yesterday by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party said the Z-pad could compromise voter accreditation process while describing it as unreliable.   The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has replaced the over 5000 card readers destroyed by fire at its Akure office last month. The Commission's Chairman, Prof Mammud Yakubu, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen on Wednesday in Akure during his three days working visit to Ondo State. Ondo 2020: PDP Candidate Disowns Thugs Arrested With Firearms

  Eyitayo Jegede, the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissociated himself with suspected thugs arrested with firearms at Ifon in Ose Local Government, Ondo state. Jegede was billed to visit Ifon as part of his grassroot campaign tour. The suspects were inside a Toyota Sienna bus visibly branded with the PDP candidate's campaign pictures. Earlier last week, a clash was reported between the supporters of Jegede and Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu at Oba Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government where eight persons were injured and several vehicles destroyed.
