Armed Robbers Attack Corpers Lodge, Injure Six

No fewer than six serving corps members were injured as armed robbers attacked their lodge and cart away valuables in Osun State. The Nation gathered that the incident happened on Saturday around 4am at the Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF) lodge at Dada Estate in Osogbo where corps members are residing. A source told our correspondent that the armed robbers numbering about eight forcefully entered the lodge and threatened to kill anyone who refuses to lay down his or her valuables. Corps Member Jailed Two Years for Sex Scam

A High Court in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, yesterday sentenced a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Oyeyemi Caleb to two years in prison. Oyeyemi, serving in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, was jailed for sex scam. Officials of Ilorin zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Oyeyemi (21) on March 16, 2020 based on intelligence reports. Oyeyemi allegedly posed as a white lady, an online sex worker, to defraud one Wilson (a white man) of $100 in order to offer him sex. He was arraigned on November 26, 2020, and pleaded guilty when the counts were read to him. Justice Adenike Akinpelu sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of fine of N200,000 on each count.

Oyo State Govt Increases Corps Members Stipend to N15,000 from N5,000

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced an increment in the monthly stipend of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members deployed in the state from N5,000 to N15,000. Makinde disclosed this on Thursday when he visited the NYSC permanent camp at Iseyin, Oyo State, to the excitement of the corps members. The governor in a tweet on Twitter said, "We visited the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Iseyin this evening. Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, has threatened that the government will not hesitate to shut down orientation camps of the National Youth Service Corps in any state where the guidelines designed to curtail the spread of COVID-19 are being flouted. Despite the rising cases of COVID-19 across the country, the Federal Government has once again ignored the recommendation by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo led Economic Sustainability Committee and approved the re-opening of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, orientation camps nationwide next Tuesday. The committee had in June 2020 report recommended that while the NYSC programme could go ahead, the three-week orientation camp should be suspended for two years. Stream Two of NYSC To Resume Camp Thursday

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 pandemic says the second stream of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) will take off from Thursday. PTF Chairman and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha stated this on Monday during the task force’s media briefing in Abuja. Mustapha also added that the date for the second stream’s camping was picked following the end of the camp training for the first stream corps members, adding that the third stream would be called to camp in January. 138 NYSC Members Test Positive for COVID-19 —NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Monday  disclosed that a total of 138 members of the National Youth Service Corps have tested positive for COVID-19. Disclosing this during the briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, the NDDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said the safe reopening of the NYSC orientation camps across the country was successful. He stated that none of those who tested positive was allowed into the camps.
