NUC: Teachers Still Yet to Enjoy the N30,000 Minimum Wage

Teachers across 15 states are yet to enjoy the N30,000 minimum wage increase since President Muhammadu Buhari signed the National Minimum Wage Act into law. The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) says teachers in states such as Abia, Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Gombe, Niger, Borno, Sokoto, Anambra, Imo, Benue, Taraba, and Zamfara are yet to enjoy the agreed minimum wage even after the third year of the Act being passed into law. ASUU Strike: Union Extends Lingering Strike by Four Weeks

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has decided to extend the lingering strike by four weeks after just concluding the previous five months' strike. The Union first declared the closure of public universities on February 14, 2022, because of the failure of the Federal Government to fulfill the Memorandum of Action (MOA) agreed upon by the two parties in 2020. NUC Orders UI Governing Council to Appoint Acting VC

Following the expiration of the tenure of the Vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed the Governing Council of varsity to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor to take over on November 30, 2020. The order became imperative following the deadlock in the appointment of a new VC to replace Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, whose tenure expires on 30 November. Mr. Chris Jibreel Maiyaki has been appointed Deputy Executive Secretary (DES), Administration, by the Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC) chaired by Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo, sequel to his nomination by the Executive Secretary, NUC, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, mni, MFR, FNAL. His appointment took effect from 1st October, 2020. In his letter of appointment dated 29th September, 2020, the Executive Secretary said the appointment is in recognition of his performance, loyalty, commitment to duty and high sense of responsibility.
