FG Discloses Date For 2023 Census Exercise

The National Population Commission, NPC, has stated that the census exercise will take place from March 29 to April 2, 2023. This was disclosed by the NPC chairperson, Nasir Kwarra, on Friday while speaking with the press after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the state house, Abuja. Kwarra said the 2023 census would prioritise the use of technology. He said, “From March 29 to April 2, our staff will be on the field enumerating people. “This census is going to be different from past censuses. The theory and practice is essentially the same, but we’re using high-end technology to conduct this census and it’s such that nobody can tamper with any figure. 2023 National Census: NPC To Engage 1m Nigerians

About one million qualified Nigerians will be engaged by the National Population Commission, NPC, to help facilitate the 2023 National Census. The commission promised to conduct a credible census devoid of manipulation and hijack by interesting parties through the deployment of technological innovation. This assurance was issued by Mr Deji Ajayi, the Commissioner representing Ekiti at the NPC while speaking at a press conference marking the trial census to be conducted in Ekiti. Nigeria May Conduct Census Before 2023 — National Population Commission

The National Population Commission has said it may conduct a population census in 2022, once it completes its process of demarcation and administering questionnaire, adding that the exercise is subject to approval from the President. This was disclosed to newsmen on Tuesday during a press conference on the commencement of fieldwork for the first pre-test for population and housing census. The NPC's Federal Commissioner in Gombe State, Abubakar Danburam, who delivered the address of the Chairman of commission, Nasir Kwarra, said the body had so far completed demarcation in over 600 local government areas out of the 774 in the country.
