In 2017, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) was established by the NIMC Act No. 23 with the mandate to establish, own, operate, maintain and manage the National Identity Database in Nigeria. The commission was tasked with the responsibility of registering persons covered by the Act, assign a unique National Identity Number (NIN) and issue General Multi-Purpose Cards (GMPC) to those captured The commission headed by Aliyu Aziz issues National e-ID card, verifies identity as well as harmonize and authenticates data. Lagos Health Commissioner, Abayomi Tests Positive for COVID-19

Akin Abayomi, Commissioner for Health in Lagos State has been diagnosed of COVID-19. This was confirmed by commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso in a tweet on Twitter on Monday. Violent Clash in Enugu Claims Lives of ‘21’ IPOB Members, Two DSS Operatives (See Video)

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has claimed that 21 of its members were killed in a violent clash with security operatives and 47 others arrested in Emene, Enugu State on Sunday. The Department of State Services (DSS) has also alleged that two of its operatives were killed by members of the IPOB. The claims were made by the IPOB and SSS in separate statements on Sunday. The clash left residents of the neighborhood gripped with fear as armed police officers and soldiers were deployed to ensure normalcy returns to the area. The federal government has waded into the crisis rocking the University of Lagos (UNILAG), suspending Wale Babalakin as the pro-chancellor and chairman, governing council of the institution. This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by spokesperson of the ministry of education, Ben Goong, Cable published.
