INEC Will Collate 2023 Election Results Manually – Okoye

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that the results of the 2023 general elections will be collated manually despite the introduction of electronic transmission of results. According to Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, the commission would still transmit results from polling units to its result-viewing portal, IRev, as seen in recent polls but the Electoral Act has provision for the method of collation. Usyk beat the Nigeria-born British boxer to retain his heavyweight titles after two out of the three judges scored him above Joshua — 115-113 and 116-112. Joshua was defeated by Usyk in front of thousands of fans that watched the fight at King Abdullah Sports City Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in the late hours of Saturday. NBC Makes U-Turn, Suspends Shutdown Of Broadcast Stations

The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has postponed the deadline to shut down broadcast stations whose licenses were withdrawn. Recall that NBC had on Friday announced the revoke of the licenses of African Independent Television, AIT, Silverbird Television, STV, and 50 other broadcast stations over growing debt. The Director-General of the commission, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, stated that the affected stations are owing up to N2 billion. Consequently, the commission ordered the shut down of the stations within 24 hours. However, the commission in a fresh statement issued on Saturday extended the shutdown to Tuesday, August 23, 2022. SSANU, NASU Call Off Strike

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Education and Associated Institutions, NASU, and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has announced the suspension of their strike, effectively on Wednesday. This was disclosed by the Joint Action Committee, JAC, of both unions in a statement issued by Mr Peter Adeyem, on Saturday. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Adeyemi said the decision to suspend the strike was reached after negotiation between the unions and the Federal Government team led by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu. ASUU Strike: Lost Academic Session To Be Forgone If FG Fails To Pay

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said that unfinished academic sessions will be forgone if the Federal Government fails to pay the backlog of salaries owed to members during the duration of the ongoing strike.   This was disclosed by the President of the union, Emmanuel Osodeke, during an interview on Television yesterday. NANS To Sue FG Over ASUU Strike

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, has expressed resolve to sue the Federal Government over the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. NANS argued that the strike which has rendered university students idle and extended their expected period of graduation is actionable and they will be seeking redress in court for their members. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has disclosed why a resolution is yet to be reached with the Federal Government. Stanley Ogoun, the Port Harcourt zonal coordinator of the union, in a statement stated that the Federal Government offered to increase the salaries of professors by N60,000 while that of other lecturers ranged between N30,000 to N60,000.
