Mele Kyari, Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has pledged commitment to implement agreements reached with organised labour which led to the suspension of planned strike and protest over the increase of electricity tariff and petrol pump price. Kyari said NNPC would diligently implement the agreement reached on Sunday between labour leaders and Federal Government. We Will Enforce the Law, Police Sounds warning to NCL, TUC Ahead of Protest

The Nigerian Police Force has issued warning to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) ahead of their strike action and protest slated for Monday to protest the spike in electricity tariff and petrol price. The labour unions have vowed to proceed with the strike and protest despite two court injunctions retraining the unions from embarking on the strike. The unions said they are yet to be served the court orders, adding that the strike can only be averted by reversal of the hikes. Subsidy not Sustainable with 60% Revenue Reduction, says Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said federal government can no longer afford to sustain fuel subsidy with 60 percent reduction in revenue generation. Osinbajo made the remark at a virtual interactive forum in Abuja. According to a statement by the Vice President’s Media aide, Laolu Akande, Osinbajo said the federal government would focus on developing Compressed Natural Gas, popularly known as auto gas, which costs cheaper as an alternative to petrol. CAMA Law Will Help Government Fight Corruption —Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020 recently passed into law in Nigeria will aid transparency and corporate accountability in the fight against corruption. The CAMA bill which was signed into law by President Buhari on August 7 was opposed by religious leaders. The law requires religious and charity organisations to be regulated by the Registrar-General of Corporate Affair Commission and a supervising minister.
