The Head, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Nigeria, Martin Griffiths, has urged the world not to take attention away from the insurgency-ravaged North-East Nigeria, noting that the region needs not less than $1bn in aid this year. According to him, the funds are needed to provide food and health care for the millions of people displaced and to those who remain in their homes but are vulnerable to attacks. Kogi Workers Give Government 14-day Ultimatum Over Minimum Wage

Organised labour in Kogi has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the state government to implement the N30,000 new minimum wage or face an indefinite strike action. Addressing journalists in Lokoja, the state capital, on Friday, shortly after the meeting of labour leaders, Kogi State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Onuh Edoka, lamented that the current administration in the state led by Governor Yahaya Bello had not added any value to workers since it came on board in 2016. The NLC chairman noted that the committee on a minimum wage set up on February 14, 2020 by Governor Bello had refused to submit its report for the implementation of the new minimum wage and its consequential adjustment of 23 per cent. Edoka added that the present administration had refused to cashback promotion arrea...

Charles Soludo, Rejects ‘His Excellency’ Title, Opts for ‘Mr Governor’

The Anambra State governor-elect, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has rejected the title of ''His excellency'' and asked to be referred to as ''Mr Governor.'' Soludo said this on Thursday at the inaugurated members of his 80-man transition committee ahead of his March 17, 2022 swearing-in date. Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Awka, the Anambra state capital, Soludo said: “I was called His Excellency a while ago, but may I plead that that ‘Excellency’ tag should please wait for now. That is part of what we will discuss in this committee. You may just need to learn how to call me by my name, but if that isn’t good for you, then, may I request that you simply call me ‘Charlie Nwangbafor’ (Charles, son of Ngbafor). If that one is so difficult for you that you must be formal ...

Abdulsalami, Workers Warn FG As NEC Decides Subsidy Removal June

The National Economic Council has said it will take a  decision on petroleum subsidy removal in June when the six-month period for subsidy payment in the 2022 budget elapses. NEC  comprising Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and state governors among others, stated this at its first meeting for the year at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday. The council stated this as a former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities strongly warned the Federal Government against removing the subsidy, saying it would worsen poverty in the country. The warning came amid conflicting reports on whether the Federal Government would fully deregulate the downstream sector by removing fuel subsidy in February or not. Although the ...

What I Told Super Eagles Before First AFCON Game -Eguavoen

Coach Augustine Eguavoen says people are once again beginning to respect the Super Eagles following their performance at the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. Eguavoen told newsmen during his post-match conference that a lot of people felt that Nigeria was not good enough to win the tournament because of the team’s performance in the last few months. Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Wednesday in Garoua advanced in style to the knockout phase of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. They beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0 at the Stade Roumde Adjia to become the only side at this 33rd edition of the competition to win all their three group games. Terrorism Charge: Nnamdi Kanu Never Denied IPOB In Court – Lawyer

The leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, never denied being the leader of the Igbo nationalist organisation while taking his plea at a Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, his lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has said. According to the lawyer, the clarification became necessary because of what he described as “deliberate misrepresentation/falsehood and wrong narratives being perpetuated by some mischief makers” and gaining prominence in social media. Ejiofor said this in a statement on Thursday titled, “Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu never denied being the leader of IPOB – Let the records be set straight”. According to him, it was pertinent to provide clarification and clear the doubt. Read Also: BREAKING: Court Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Till Wednesday He said, “S.M...
