Nigeria: LASG Closes Mile 2 Road to Tincan Island Ports for Repairs

The Lagos State Government on Monday announced the closure of the road from Mile 2 to Tincan Island Ports with immediate effect. The closure which is to allow for palliative repair works on the corridor will last for 48 hours. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation Dr. Taiwo Olufemi Salaam disclosed that the closure would allow  Hitech Construction Company speed up the repair works on the road which motorists have for some time been experiencing  incessant and avoidable accidents. He advised  all trucks to avoid the road to allow the repair works which is being done in the interest of motorists to go on smoothly. The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal resumed sitting on Monday with Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba as the new replacement for Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa. Garuba, who is the Presiding Justice of the Lagos Division appeared during the sitting with a five-man panel as the new chairman of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal. In his welcome address, the new chairman of the panel said what he intends to do is a call over of the petitions to enable the tribunal to schedule them for hearing because he is just joining the panel. He called for the cooperation of the parties as it is time bound and the time is already halfway and there is need to prudently ensure the cases are heard. The newly elected governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni has married a third wife barely 24 hours after he was sworn into office. He got married to Ummi Adama Gaidam, the daughter of Ibrahim Gaidam, the immediate past governor of the state. This means that the past governor handed over to his son-in-law. The marriage is thought to be more of a political move than a thing of the heart. They were married in a low-key event at the former governor's residence. The new bride is currently a student in Saudi Arabia.

Following the news making the rounds regarding the arrest of former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha by operatives of the EFCC, the commission has come out to official deny the claim. While responding to questions from journalists, Tony Orilade, EFCC’s acting Head, Media and Publicity described the news as fake. When asked if he knew how the news came about, his response was “We don’t investigate the source of disinformation. We investigate financial and economic crimes. Breaking News: Rochas Okorocha and Wife Arrested by EFCC Operatives

Barely 24 hours after vacating office as the governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha and his wife have both been arrested by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Officers from the commission raided the former governor's house and effected the arrest. Reports have it that men from the commission have also sealed the former governor's university at Ogboko, Eastern Palm University. During his handover, Rochas had made some statements that indicated he might be aware of some plans to arrest him. He had warned that any attempt to silence him will see him fighting back.
