World Cup: Belgium Overruns Tunisia 5:2

The Belgian team saw off their Tunisian opponents with a 5:2 scoreline. Hazard opened score with a penalty in the 6th minute while Lukaku doubled the lead in the 16th minute. The Tunisians looked like they were attempting a come back with an 18th minute goal. However, the scoreline stayed at 2:1 until 3 minutes into the added time of the first half when Lukaku scored his second and Belgium's third. Coming into the second half, the Belgians scored a fourth through Hazard in the 51st minute ruling out any chances of a Tunisian come back. Breaking News: Senator Abaribe Arrested by DSS

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has been arrested by men of the Department of State Services (DSS). Senator Abaribe is the Senator representing Abia South in the upper house of the National Assembly. It is not yet clear why he was arrested but as at the time of filing this report, his home in Abuja has been cordoned off by officers of the DSS. It appears the men of the DSS are about to carry out a search of the residence. It will be recalled that the Senator is one of those that stood surety for Nnamdi Kanu, and had been instructed to produce him before the next hearing of his case.

World Cup: Nigeria Keeps Hope Alive, Wins Iceland 2:0

Nigeria has kept their hope for a second round qualification alive by beating Iceland 2:0. Both Nigerian goals came in the first half courtesy of Ahmed Musa. He scored the 49th minute and the second in the 75th minute. Playing a different formation from the formation that saw them lose 2:0 to Croatia, the Nigerian team played with more purpose and could have scored more goals. Iceland however missed a penalty that was awarded courtesy of the VAR. With this result, Nigeria is now second on the group with 3 points while Iceland is third with 1 point and a -2 goals difference. Argentina is at the bottom of the group with 1 point and a -3 goals difference. Morocco has become the first African side to fully crash out of the tournament following a 1:0 defeat to Portugal today. World Cup: Egypt Falls 1:3 to Hosts Russia

The Egyptians playing with their star player, Salah were defeated 3:1 by hosts Russia. The first half of the encounter ended goal-less but things changed when in the 47th minute, The Egyptians conceded an own goal, opening the flood gate of goals. Following the own goal in the 47th minute, Russia scored in the 59th minute through Cheryshev and again in the 3 minutes later through Dzyuba. Egypt got a consolation goal courtesy of a Salah penalty but this might not be enough to see them to the second round. Though Egypt is not technically out, they will need Uruguay to lose to both Saudi Arabia and Russia, giving Russia the full 9 points, and each of the remaining teams 3 points each. World Cup: Senegal Gives Africa its First Win

Senegal defeated Poland by 2:1 to give Africa its first win in the on-going 2018 FIFA World Cup. Senegal's first goal was put down as an own goal after a Polish defender deflected a Senegalese shot into his own net. In the 60th minute, Niang, coming back into the pitch having gone out following an injury, latched unto a defensive error to give Senegal her second goal. World Cup: Tunisia Loses 2:1 to England

England edged past Tunisia with a 2:1 score line. The match which was looking like it was going to be Africa's first result at the on-going World Cup ended up in another loss for an African team. Harry Kane had opened score for the English in the 11th minute, pouncing on a parry by the goalkeeper to tap in the first goal. Tunisia responded through Ferjani Sassi in the 35th minute via a penalty. This was the first goal by any African team so far at the on-going World Cup. Though Tunisa held on to the end of regulation time, a defensive error in the 90th minute resulted in a corner which was headed in by Harry Kane off a Maguire header. With this announcement, the former governor of Kaduna State and former Senator threw in his hat into the race for the Presidency of Nigeria come 2019. Makarfi made this announcement at a press briefing which took place today Sunday June 17th. Hosts Russia began their World Cup campaign on a positive note with a convincing 5:0 win over Saudi Arabia. Iury Gazinsky scored the first goal of the tournament in the 12th minute, relieving the Russians of some pressure.
