Remembering the Apo6; 15 Years After by Charles Ogbu

Today makes it 15 years since 5 Igbo traders along with their female friend were brutally murdered by men of the Nigerian Police Force led by then Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Danjuma Ibrahim at a police checkpoint in Gimbiya street, area 11, Garriki, Abuja because the female victim turned down the romantic overtures of the senior Police officer, Danjuma at a night club in the city. The 5 Igbo traders' names were (1)Ifeanyi Ozor, (2)Chinedu Meniru, (3) Anthony Nwokike, (4) Paulinus Ogbonna, (5) Ekene Isaac Mgbe and (6) Augustina Arebu the only female victim and fiance to Ifeanyi Ozor. All six were traders at the Apo auto spare parts market, Abuja. They were killed because DCP Danjuma made romantic advances to the only lady among them, Augustina Arebu, at a night club, which s...

George Floyd Killing – African Implications Of Continued Hatred Of Black Bodies

5th June 2020   The agonizing killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in open view of the world by a White police officer assisted by 3 other non-Black officers, one of them Oriental, in America, is yet another hate-fuelled killing of a Black body. On that same day, in another part of America a White female called police with her best acting voice and lied that she was being threatened by a Black man, all because he had correctly complained about her needing to put her dog on a leash in that part of the park where they were. You see, Amy Cooper knew that Black people are hated and harmed by other communities, and she used the right words during her lying phone call to police, that would have potential to get the Black male, Christian Cooper (no relation) killed. Fortunately Chri...

Nigeria: DSS Invade Court while in Session to Rearrest Sowore Despite Court Order (Video)

Officers of the Department of State Services today stormed a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in an attempt to rearrest Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Revolution Now Movement, and his co-defendant, Bakare. In an unprecedented event, lawyers and other onlookers witnessed a total disrespect for the judiciary as even the Judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, had to be escorted to her chambers as a result of the disruption. Sowore's supporters fully resisted the attempt at rearresting him even after the court had expressly ordered that he be released and the DSS fined N100,000.00. The presiding Judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, had yesterday threatened the Director of the DSS with arrest for the continued flaunting of court orders and Nigerians had thought that the DSS had finally decided to obe...

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu, who declared her support while welcoming the Joint Legal Clinic team on a courtesy visit at the Lagos House, Ikeja, revealed that the Office of the First Lady had been inundated with several complaints from the public on cases relating to Domestic and Sexual Violence. Nigeria: Let the Court Decide El Zakzaky’s Fate – Presidency

The Presidency appeals to El-Zakzaky-led Shiite members to desist from needless violent street protests and await the decision of the court in Kaduna where their leader is currently being tried. The issue of El-ZakZaky is before the court in Kaduna and his supporters should focus on his on-going trial instead of causing daily damages, disruptions and public nuisance in Abuja. It is wrong to be in court and resort to violence at the same time in order to get justice for anybody accused. The destruction of public property in the name of protest is not within the right of this group of Shiite members and no government anywhere would have tolerated a situation where any group would take over public roads in cities as they have done in Abuja and interfere with the rights of other citiz...

Nigeria: FG Woefully Fails to Prove Its Case Against CJN Walter Onnoghen

The Federal Government, on Thursday, closed its case against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, after it produced only three witnesses that testified before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT. Though FG initially expressed its intention to produce a total of six witnesses to substantiate all the allegations it levelled against the embattled CJN, however, shortly after the third witness was discharged, the prosecution counsel told the tribunal that it would be unnecessary to call further witnesses. The prosecution counsel, Mr. Aliyu Umar, SAN, told the tribunal that the defendant was at liberty to summon any of the listed but uncalled witnesses to testify on his behalf if he so wished. He was immediately overruled by the CCT Chairman, Mr. Danladi U...

Nigeria: Amina Zakari is Lying About her Relationship with Buhari by Farooq Kperogi

Mrs. Amina Zakari just said to the BBC, “I’m not [Buhari’s] niece.” That’s flat-out mendacious. And it puts a huge question mark on her honesty, probity, and trustworthiness. A person who can lie this casually about something as basic and as verifiable as her relationships is disreputable and unworthy of the responsibility she's been entrusted with at INEC. So what is the truth? In a December 27, 2018 article, Mohammed Haruna, former Daily Trust columnist and current INEC commissioner, confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s biological sister was once married to Mrs. Amina Zakari’s father. That makes Amina Buhari’s niece. This is the definition of a niece in the Oxford English Dictionary: “A daughter of one's brother or sister, or of one's brother-in-law or sister-in-law.” Amina...

Nigeria: Should Buhari probe the Power Sector, OBJ Won’t Escape Prosecution – Oshiomole

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, on Friday said former President Olusegun Obasanjo would not escape prosecution if President Muhammadu Buhari decides to probe the power sector. The former governor of Edo State spoke in Jos during the opening of Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong’s reelection campaign at the Rwang Pam Stadium. He said, “Obasanjo said in 1999 that if he was elected President with his Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, he would fix the power sector in six months and that there would be electricity supply all over Nigeria. Many years later, we realised what he meant. “He and his Vice-President spent $16bn on power sector, after eight years there was more darkness in Nigeria than when they assumed office. So when President Muha...

Nigeria: LASTMA Officer Shot Dead By Suspected F-SARS Officer

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, identified as Rotimi Adeyemo, was shot dead in the Iyana-Ipaja area of Alimosho Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday. PUNCH Metro gathered that Adeyemo, while controlling traffic at the Iyana-Ipaja roundabout, stopped a motorist, who was alleged to be an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, for violating a traffic rule, but the motorist, who was apparently annoyed by the action of the LASTMA official, allegedly brought out a gun from his vehicle and shot the official dead. An eyewitness, Uwem Okon, told PUNCH Metro that the motorist, who drove a Toyota Highlander SUV, brought out a gun and shot the traffic official, who had asked him to stop for violating the rule. Okon added that onlookers...
