Justice of Supreme Court, Sylvester Ngwuta is Dead

 Supreme Court Justice, Sylvester Nwali Ngwuta is dead. The Justice died on Sunday morning, SaharaReporters reports. It was gathered that a source informed TheNigeriaLawyer that he passed on in his sleep at his official residence in Abuja. Justice Ngwuta was billed to retire from the Supreme Court on March 30, 2021 upon clocking 70 years mandatory retirement age. He was born in 1951.

Court Rescinds Forfeiture Order on Saraki’s Ikoyi Properties

The Federal High Court that sat in Lagos reversed its order of interim forfeiture on the properties of Senator Olubukola Saraki, situated on 17 and 17A MacDonald Road, Okoyi, Lagos State. The judgement followed the submissions by counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr Nnaemeka Omewa and counsel for Saraki, Mr Kehinde Ogunwumiju, SAN, who had adopted their respective written addresses for and against the final forfeiture order sought by the EFCC. The wife of a pastor of a church, identified as Mrs Jummai Mala has approached a Yola Upper Area Court in Adamawa State to nullify her marriage to her husband, who she allegedly caught sleeping with female church members. Mrs Mala who claims to be the breadwinner of the family alleged that her husband, Pastor Yakubu Ayuba, had fathered three children with female church members whom he slept with in his office. Senate Ratifies N11.35bn Police Trust Fund Budget

The Senate has approved N11,352,457.70 as the budget for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund in the 2020 fiscal year. The approval followed the consideration of the harmonized report of the Senate and House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs. The implementation of the approved NPTP 2020 budget is set to elapse on the 30th of April, 2021. Senator Halliru Jika, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs on Wednesday presented the report of hid committee at the plenary. Court Unfreezes #EndSARS Campaigners’ Bank Accounts

Following the freezing of the bank account of some promoters of the #EndSARS protesters, a Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to unfreeze 20 bank accounts linked to protesters and promoters of #EndSARS with immediate effect. The order was given by Justice Ahmed Mohammed following the sudden withdrawal of a suit filed against them by the CBN through its counsel, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN). The apex bank had asked for 180 days to probe the alleged crime against the defendants. A former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu on Tuesday asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to strike out a suit by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission seeking to prosecute him on the same offence of alleged laundering of N7.1 billion. Kalu who is the Senate Chief Whip argued that having been tried once by EFCC, convicted and sentenced in the same charges FHC/ABJ/CR/56/2007, it would amount to double jeopardy for him if subjected to a fresh trial on the same charge. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos presided by Justice Muhammed Liman has fixed February 19, 2021, for ruling in a suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for the total and final forfeiture of two properties belonging to the former Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki. Femi Falana, SAN, has said that the order given by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State asking herdsmen to vacate forest reserves in the state within seven days is legal. Falana in a statement issued on Sunday said the governor was within his constitutional rights to issue such order.
