‘PDP Has Brought Us Shame’ – Ayu Criticizes His Party

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, on Thursday said ‘the PDP has brought us shame'. Ayu said this in error at the party’s campaign rally at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano State while speaking on why the people of the state should not cast their vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC. However, the PDP chairman after a few seconds corrected himself and said “APC” in place of PDP. Ayu stated that if the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar is elected, he will implement policies that will better the country’s economy. PDP Crisis: I Can Stop Ortom, Others From Contesting – Ayu

Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that although he has the power to stop Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and others calling for his resignation from contesting election under the PDP, he has chosen not to do so. He said that his decision not to tow the path was to avoid a crack in the party. Ayu disclosed this while speaking to his supporters at his countryside in Gboko on Friday. Governor Ortom along with four other governors had called on Ayu to resign his position after Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s presidential candidate. Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has responded to corruption allegations against the National Working Committee, NWC, following the return of over N100m allowance by some NWC members. Ayu stated that the funds were for housing allowance which all members of the NWC unanimously agreed to, debunking speculations that the fund was a bribe or an illegal payment. Immediate past Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Diran Odeyemi, yesterday, asked National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, to immediately resign, otherwise, the chances of the party winning the forthcoming presidential election could be jeopardised.
