Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama Escapes Lynching in Austria

Another Nigerian government official has experienced the wrath of members of IPOB in Europe. This time it is Geoffrey Onyeama, the nation's Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was in Austria where he was holding a meeting with Nigerians when during the session, trouble erupted. The problem really began during a question and answer session. A participant has asked a question regarding the behaviour of the executive with regards to how it disdains court orders and referencing the incarceration of the IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu despite court orders issued for his release and the Biafra war. In answering this question, the minister started by saying the most of those who were agitating today did not experience the war and that it was sad they were romanticizing something they really did not kno...

Nigeria: Ike Ekweremadu Manhandled by IPOB Members in Germany

Former deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was shown in a video being manhandled by suspected IPOB members in Nuremburg Germany where he had gone to celebrate the Igbo new yam festival. As the video showed him being chased out of the venue of the event, voices could be heard in the background shouting "people are being killed on a daily basis, people are being arrested for no reason...." "we don't want them here.." This was clearly a show of disappointment and even anger at the Igbo ruling class who many IPOB members and indeed Igbos as a whole have seen as not being interested in the welfare of their people but only interested in their respective pockets. Biafra: Justice Binta Orders the Arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, Trial for Treason Charges to Continue

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and directed that his trial on charges of treasonable felony should proceed in his absence. The judge, whose decision was anchored on the provisions of Section 352(4) of the Administrative of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, said Kanu had failed to appear in court since April 25, 2017 without any reasonable explanation. The lead prosecuting counsel, Mr. Magaji Labaran, applied for the court’s orders earlier in the Thursday’s proceedings. Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, had opposed Labaran’s oral application, and had asked to be given more time to explain why his client had not been in court by filing all necessary papers. He insiste...

Nigeria: IPOB Calls Off Election Boycott, Preconditions and Terms Met

In a surprising turn of events a day to the elections, it appears that IPOB has called off its decision to boycott the elections. In a tweet released on Nnamdi Kanu's Twitter handle, the leader of IPOB said the election boycott had been called off. According to him, their preconditions and terms had been met. "Having confirmed this evening that all our preconditions and terms have been met, signed, sealed and delivered; I hereby call-off the election boycott across Biafraland on Feb. 16, 2019. I dedicate this historic victory to the formidable #IPOB family worldwide." It is not clear at this time what these preconditions and terms are and who met them.

Nigeria: IPOB Insists on Boycotting the 2019 General Elections

The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has insisted that its position on boycotting the 2019 elections has not changed. In a statement credited to Mazi Alphonsus Uche Okafor-Mefor, the deputy leader of the group, the group said "Forget all the noise, disregard all self-destructive, nocturnal activities and conducts of baby opportunists whose stock in trade is treachery in Biafra land. Truth is that we have made up our minds, crossed boundaries and calibrated territories and guess what ? We have firmly established ourselves both in minds and presence of friends and foes. We, therefore, make bold to state with every ounce of certainty and beyond every conceivable equivocation that nobody can question the wisdom in "boycotting the fraudulent election" of the zoo ca...

Biafra: South-East Massively Complies with IPOB’s Sit-At-Home Order

Many major cities in the South-East were almost ghost towns today as there was a massive compliance with IPOB's sit-at-home order. Major roads, markets and motor parks were deserted. Commercial operations were non existent. Even the usually busy Niger bridge was deserted as no vehicular or human traffic was visible. IPOB claims that the order received 70% compliance while the Police in Anambra claims otherwise. In Anambra the order was totally complied with in Onitsha and Nkpor. However, Awka, Nnewi and some other rural communities had some activities, with banks offering minimal services. Security operatives were seen at major points, ready to intervene if there was a break down of law and order. Speaking on the success of the protest, Emma Powerful, IPOB's Media and Public...

Biafra: Security Operatives Call on Nigerians to Ignore IPOB’s Sept. 14th Sit-at-Home Protest

Following a high-powered meeting of Nigerian security operatives, South-easterners have been directed to ignore the sit-at-home directive issued by IPOB. They are advised to go about their normal business, assuring them of their safety. IPOB had earlier issued a directive, calling for a sit-at-home on the 14th of September to protest the mass killings of innocent easterners during the Operation Python Dance 2. Issuing the directive, IPOB's publicity secretary, Emma Powerful said "at a time when we are still burying those Operation Python Dance 2 killed and dumped in mass graves across Biafraland in September 2017, here we are today with Nigeria military once again poised to invade the South East, to slaughter the weak and innocent in their annual genocidal ritual in the name of yet a...

Biafra: IPOB Blames, Ohaneze, South-east Governors for Operation Python Dance 3

The Indeginous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared Ohaneze Ndigbo and the South-East Governors complicit in the recently announced Operation Python Dance 3 by the Nigerian Army. Speaking on behalf of IPOB, its publicity secretary, Emma Powerful wondered why the governors and Ohaneze Ndigbo have kept silent on the issue of the operation the army again plans to carry out in the South-East. The group had earlier given a directive for a sit-at-home protest on September 14th 2018 to protest the alleged mass killings of innocent easterner by the Nigerian army. He added that, despite the fact that they were still burying their dead from the last operation, they were once again faced with yet another Operation Python Dance meant to kill more innocent and defenceless easterners. He sai...

Biafra: Sit-At-Home Order Paralysis South-East States

In celebration of this year's Biafra day on May 30th, Biafra agitators staged a sit-at-home protest which was said to have recorded about 95% compliance. The decision to stage sit-at-home protests to mark Biafra celebration day started last year as a result of the clamp down by Nigerian authorities on their non-violent street protests. According to Amnesty International, hundreds of unarmed protesters have been killed by the nation's security operatives at several peaceful protests. With the current sit-at-home protests, no violence is recorded and no lives are lost. The government is however not happy about the success these protests keep recording. According to Evang. Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, founder, Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) and deputy secretary, Igbo Leaders of Thought, the p...
