LASG, FG To Close Eko Bridge for Maintenance June 4

The Lagos State Government has disclosed that the Eko Bridge from Costain to Alaka in bound National Stadium will be closed for a period of ten weeks for emergency repair work to be undertaken by the Federal Government from June 4 to August 13. This was contained in a statement by the state Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, noting that the repair was necessitated by the need to complete the rehabilitation works at the opposite side of the bridge earlier initiated by the Federal Government, hence the need for a notice of route diversion. Oladeinde noted that efforts have been made at providing alternative routes to divert traffic during the period of repairs. Makinde Set to Build New Abuja Governor’s Lodge at N1.2bn

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and the state executive council has ratified N1.2 billion to build a new governor’s lodge in Abuja. This was disclosed by Daud Sangodoyin, the Commissioner of Public Works and Infrastructure, stating that the council ratified N1.2 billion to construct a new Governor’s Lodge at No 2. John Kadiya Close, Asokoro, Abuja. According to Sangodoyin, the new lodge would provide apartments for the governor, deputy governor, chalets, fittings, and furniture, “which would be of modern type.” The commissioner added that the government would complete the building project in six months. News Agency of Nigeria reports that Sangodoyin explained that the old lodge was no longer fit for the governor’s use.

The North-Easter part of Nigeria needs fresh $1 billion to tackle the Boko Haram-induced humanitarian crisis affecting more than six million people in 2021, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has said. It disclosed this on Wednesday noting that a combination of escalating conflict, displacement, and disruption has impacted livelihoods worsened by COVID-19 restrictions resulting in hunger for at least 5.1 million people. A group of eight suspects who attacked and injured field operations officers working with the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, at an unapproved construction site in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area, has been nabbed by security agents. The suspects, all males in their twenties, had on Thursday, February 25th, 202, assailed the ACTDA field inspectors who demanded the approval papers for construction works at the building site where the suspects were working. Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria has lent his voice to the Federal Government’s plan to privatise some of its assets. Among the assets to be privatised are the country’s refineries, the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Yola Electricity Distribution Company, Zungeru Hydro Power, Tafawa Belewa Square, among others. The Federal Government has selected a civil society organisation, CLEEN Foundation, to monitor the spending of the last tranche of $311m returned funds looted by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha. This was disclosed on Thursday by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. The fund which was returned in February 2020, was reported to have been appropriated for three notable projects - the 2nd Niger Bridge, the Abuja-Kano Expressway and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Osun State Solicits FG’s Support to Build Airport

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has solicited support from the Federal Government for the state’s airport project. The governor on Thursday visited the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika where he sought support from the ministry to help the state accomplish the construction of its airport. A tweet by the official Twitter handle of the Federal Ministry of Aviation disclosed the visit.
