353 Nigerian Doctors Employed By UK in Three Months Amid Ongoing Strike In Nigeria

About 353 Nigerian doctors have migrated to the United Kingdom to work in the last 100 days. According to Punch, checks on the website of the General Medical Council – the body which licenses and maintains the official register of medical practitioners in the UK – showed that the GMC licensed at least 353 Nigerian-trained doctors between June 10, 2021 and September 20, 2021. The statistics also showed that between July 24, 2020 and September 21, 2021, about 862 Nigeria trained doctors were licensed in the UK despite the COVID-19 pandemic. EFCC Chairman Collapses While Delivering Speech

Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of antigraft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has collapsed at the third National Identity Day celebration at the Banquet Hall, Aso Rock Villa. Bawa was delivering a goodwill message when he suddenly stopped, staggered back to his seat, and laid down, Tribune reports. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, and other dignitaries held him and guided out of the hall after a while. Bawa was nominated as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC on February 16, 2021, and on February 24, 2021, he was confirmed by the National Assembly as the Executive Chairman. Strike: NARD Asks Buhari to Lead Negotiations, Falana Heads Legal Team

Members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, who have been on strike since August 2, 2021, have asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to invite them to partake in subsequent meetings with the Nigerian Medical Association. This was as the association added that human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), would be leading the NARD legal team to the National Industrial Court on Wednesday. Resident Doctors Continue Strike Despite Court Order

On Monday, the National Industrial Court sitting in Abuja had ordered the striking National Association of Resident Doctors, to suspend its industrial action which began on August 2, 2021. Justice John Targema made the order while delivering his ruling on an ex parte application brought before the court by the Federal Government. The court stated that the application was granted after carefully considering the processes filed by the applicants.
