Protesters Storm UI Gate, Soldiers Deployed To Scene

Protesters converged at the gate of the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday morning to express their disaffection over the present economic challenges in the country. Members of the community barricaded the varsity’s gate, thereby causing traffic jam and putting a stop to other activities. According to a student who chose to be anonymous, soldiers and Operation Burst officers had been deployed to the scene, at the time of filing this report, Punch reports. Fuel Price Hike: Lagos, Abuja Residents Suffer as Price Increases

Nigerians are experiencing an unofficial fuel price hike as numerous filling stations have increased their pump prices from the regulated N165. The hike in price is confirmed to be rampant in the city of Abuja and Lagos. African News Today gathered information that certain petrol stations sell their product for N220 per litre. Even amongst the hike, some stations refused to sell leading to a scarcity of petrol in some areas. NNPC To Nigerians: Avoid Panic Buying, We Have 1.7bn Litres Of Petrol In Stock

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has urged Nigerians to avoid panic buying, adding that it has enough petrol in stock. Mele Kyari, group managing director, NNPC, said this while briefing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, shortly after a meeting with the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and Petrol Tanker Drivers (PTD). Others present at the meeting were the Depot and Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPMAN) and Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN).
