Auditor General Queries Ministry’s N3.8bn Spending From Suspended RUGA Fund

The Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation has queried the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for spending a total sum of N3.809bn on the suspended Rural Grazing Area scheme without a presidential approval or National Assembly appropriation. The query is part of the eight audit queries issued against the ministry in the ‘Auditor-General for the Federation’s Annual Report on Non-Compliance/Internal Control Weaknesses Issues in Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government of Nigeria for the Year Ended 31st December, 2019.’ The OAuGF had queried expenditures totaling N60,795,898,225.84 by the ministry. BREAKING: National Assembly Transmits 2022 Budget To Buhari For Assent

The National Assembly has transmitted the 2022 Appropriation Bill to President Muhammadu Buhari, for assent. The House of Representatives and the Senate passed the Federal Government’s budget on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, respectively, raising the total estimates from the proposed N16.391tn to N17.126tn. The oil benchmark was raised from the proposed $57 per barrel to $62. President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, had said the budget would be transmitted to Buhari by Thursday. The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, says the money left behind for Nigeria by former President Goodluck Jonathan at the point of his departure on May 29, 2015 was not enough to run the affairs of the country for three weeks. FG Increases Hazard Allowance From N5,000 To N40,000 For Doctors, N34,000 For Others

The Federal Government has increased the hazard allowance for medical doctors and health workers in the country. It was gathered that while the government increased the allowance for doctors from N5,000 to between N32,000 and N40,000; other health workers like nurses, laboratory workers among others had theirs reviewed to between N15,000 and N34,000. This was contained in a circular with reference number SWC/S/04/S.218/11/406 dated December 22, 2021 and signed by the Executive Chairman of the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission. Subsidy: NLC Fixes Jan 27, Feb 1 For Nationwide Protests

The Nigeria Labour Congress has warned the Federal Government against plans to remove the fuel subsidy in 2022, saying the action will be met with nationwide protests.  The congress said the planned rallies would commence without warning should the FG announce new fuel prices next year. The union disclosed it would stage a protest across the 36 states of the federation on January 27, 2022, which would culminate in the submission of protest letters to all the state governors. It said this would be followed on February 1 with another nationwide protest that will also hold in Abuja. The Federal Executive Council has approved 20 per cent upward review of the salaries of the Nigeria Police Force personnel with effect from January 2022. The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, disclosed this to State House Correspondents at the end of the virtual Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday. The naira continued its downward trend as the dollar was sold for N570 in the parallel market on Tuesday. Operators, who spoke to our correspondent, said the dollar was bought and sold for N567 and N570 respectively on Tuesday, compared to N550 and N555 three weeks earlier. Some Bureau de Change Operators attributed the further fall in the value of the naira to an increase in the demand for the greenback.
