Nigeria: NLC Insists on Strike Commencing 28th Sept. 2020

The Nigerian Labour Congress has doubled down on its position that there will be a Nation-wide strike from the 28th of September 2020 unless their demands are met. In a post shared on their Facebook Page, the union said "STRIKE BEGINS TOMMOROW MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER, UNLESS OUR DEMANDS ARE MET." STRIKE BEGINS TOMMOROW MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER, UNLESS OUR DEMANDS ARE MET. Posted by Nigeria Labour Congress HQ on Sunday, September 27, 2020 It will be recalled that a court ordered the strike to be put on hold, an order which the union does not appear to be willing to obey. The Federal Government has invited the union's leaders for a meeting so it is yet to be seen if the strike will be called off before tomorrow the 28th of September. We will keep you posted.

774,000 FG Jobs: States Get Extension

  Some states that have been unable to complete the recruitment process of artisans for the 774,000 Special Public Works (SPW) programme of the Federal Government have been granted one week extension. Minister of State for Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo said the October 1 commencement of the programme is still on course. Keyamo said on Monday that “There was a board meeting of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) chaired by me.   We looked at the situation and said in deserving cases we may extend for a few days, for some states that have not submitted their final lists. “We are still looking at October 1 to begin nationwide. The Ogun State government  has said over 25,000 unemployed youths have registered with the state Job Portal opened last week Thursday.
