Buhari Nominates Lauretta Onochie, Three Others as INEC Commissioners

  President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated his Special Assistant on Social Media, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie from Delta as a National Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Senate President Ahmad Lawan read President Buhari’s letter of request at plenary today. Also nominated for confirmation as National Electoral Commissioners of the INEC were: Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah (National from Katsina; Prof. Kunle Cornelius Ajayi from Ekiti and Saidu Babura Ahmad (Resident Electoral Commissioner) from Jigawa. Ondo 2020: Akeredolu Wins Governorship Election

  Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress has won the Ondo governorship election held on Saturday. Mr Akeredolu, won in 15 of the state’s 18 local government areas while Eyitayo Jegede, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in the remaining three local governments based on the results announced by the electoral commission, INEC, at its headquarters in Abuja. The incumbent deputy governor in the state and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, came a distant third by scoring 69,127 votes.

A boat conveying officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to their polling unit in the ongoing Ondo State governorship election has capsized. A video shared on Twitter by a user identified as @snapandsend and obtained by African News Today shows individuals struggling to swim in the river while onlookers were capturing them with mobile devices. Ondo 2020: NSCDC Deploys Sniffer Dogs, 7,079 Personnel

  The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 7,079 personnel, sniffer dogs, alongside mobile surveillance vans to ensure security during the governorship election holding in Ondo State on Saturday. Commandant-General (CG)  of the Corps, Mr. Abdullahi Gana disclosed this in a statement by spokesman Emmanuel Okeh, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. Ondo2020: INEC Flags 270 Coastal Polling Units as Hotspots

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed plans to utilise the country’s security outfits to quell threats to the peaceful conduct of the Ondo State governorship election especially in riverine areas and other hotspots in the state. According to INEC, Ondo has 62 creeks and over 270 Polling Units in the fluvial areas of Ese-Odo and Ilaje Local Government Areas of the state.
