Osinbajo Calls For Transparent Democratic Processes in Africa

The Vice-President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has urged Africans to put extra effort in ensuring that elections in the continent go through the democratic process and remain transparent and fair. Osinbajo said this on Monday while receiving the President-elect of Sao Tome and Principe, Carlos Vila Nova who paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa. The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement titled ‘Elections in Africa must follow a democratic process–Osinbajo’. INEC Suspends Voter Registration in Bauchi

The Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Bauchi State. This is contained in a statement by the INEC’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity in the state, Alhaji Adamu Gujungu, on Monday in Bauchi. Gujungu said that the temporary suspension of the exercise would take effect from Sept. 21, to facilitate the display of preliminary voters register. Persuade Buhari To Conduct Free, Fair Elections, Wike Tells UN

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has asked the United Nations and other world bodies to persuade President Muhammadu Buhari to conduct a free and fair election in 2023. Despite the rejection of electronic transmission of election results by the National Assembly in the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill, the use of the technology will be feasible in the deepening of democracy in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission said on Saturday.
