APC Presidential Primary: Why Oyegun’s Committee Axed 10 Aspirants

The Chief John Odigie-Oyegun led Presidential Screening Committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has axed 10 of the 23 presidential aspirants of the party. Although it was not immediately possible to get the list of those affected the committee chairman said all the aspirants were qualified in terms of qualifications and constitutional requirements but his team had cut down the number based on six other factors. APC Screening Committee Disqualifies 10 Presidential Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress Screening Committee has disqualified 10 presidential aspirants of the party. Recall that 23 aspirants were screened in two days by the committee.   The Chairman of the APC presidential screening committee, John Odigie-Oyegun, made this known on Friday. Odigie-Oyegun spoke while submitting his committee’s report to the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu. He said, “We engaged every aspirant on the issue of consensus. A Peoples Democratic Party national delegate from Kaduna State, Tanko Sabo, has said that he donated over N12 million he got from the party’s presidential primary to the less-privileged in the Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna. In a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Thursday morning, Sabo said he wasn’t afraid that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission might come after him, adding that he “satisfied my conscience and all my people are happy”. Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye has dismissed claims that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State betrayed his Rivers counterpart, Nyesom Wike during the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, primary election. Tambuwal had withdrawn from the presidential race and supported former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. The embattled former Governor of Imo State and one of the presidential aspirants of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Rochas Okorocha, is still in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as he has not been able to meet his bail conditions.
