Kano approves New Minimum Wage for Lecturers

Kano State Executive Council (SEC), on Thursday, approved implementation of a new wage for academic and non-academic staff of its two universities. The council also okayed a monthly release of N49.7 million, Commissioner for Information Malam Muhammad Garba, said while briefing reporters in Kano. Garba announced that the arrears from time of the approval would be determined pending improvement of the financial situation. He said the two institutions, Yusuf Maitama Sule University and Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, would receive monthly allocations of N24.6 million and N25.1 million for the Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary Structure II (CONUASS II) and Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure II (CONTISS II). SSANU Under Pressure to Resume Suspended Strike

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, has said the Federal Government’s failure to fulfil its agreements with the union by the April 30th deadline has put it under pressure to resume the suspended strike. The union lamented that the government had yet to begin payment of the ensuing adjustments for the new national minimum wage and the allowances contained in the earned allowance. Missing IMSU 300-Level Law Student Found in Mortuary

The remains of a 300-level Law student of the Imo State University, Owerri, Kingsley Chiwueze, has been found in the morgue of the Umuguma General Hospital, Owerri, on Sunday five days after he was declared missing. The deceased was declared missing on Monday after his whereabouts became unknown and efforts to find him proved futile. Reports say Chiwueze who actively involved in students’ politics, hailed from the Oguta Local Government Area of the state. The deceased had a fortnight ago declared his intention to contest for the office of Senate President of the National Association of Imo State Students. Police debunk attack on UNIABUJA

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police Command has refuted viral messages on social media claiming that bandits attacked the University of Abuja. The police advised Abuja residents to disregard what it described as a rumour. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced the sack of the Vice-Chancellor of the Ladoke Atintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, Professor M.O. Ologunde. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned that only admissions through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) are valid. The board stated this yesterday in a statement by its Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin in Abuja. John Mrabure, the acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, has disclosed that at least 15 convicts are in line to be conferred with bachelor’s degrees in different academic disciplines while another inmate has defended his PhD thesis. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has shifted the commencement of registration exercise for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry earlier scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 8. The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has announced the release of private candidates’ results for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, 2021-First Series.
