Kano approves New Minimum Wage for Lecturers

Kano State Executive Council (SEC), on Thursday, approved implementation of a new wage for academic and non-academic staff of its two universities. The council also okayed a monthly release of N49.7 million, Commissioner for Information Malam Muhammad Garba, said while briefing reporters in Kano. Garba announced that the arrears from time of the approval would be determined pending improvement of the financial situation. SSANU Under Pressure to Resume Suspended Strike

The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU, has said the Federal Government’s failure to fulfil its agreements with the union by the April 30th deadline has put it under pressure to resume the suspended strike. The union lamented that the government had yet to begin payment of the ensuing adjustments for the new national minimum wage and the allowances contained in the earned allowance. Missing IMSU 300-Level Law Student Found in Mortuary  

The remains of a 300-level Law student of the Imo State University, Owerri, Kingsley Chiwueze, has been found in the morgue of the Umuguma General Hospital, Owerri, on Sunday five days after he was declared missing. The deceased was declared missing on Monday after his whereabouts became unknown and efforts to find him proved futile. Reports say Chiwueze who actively involved in students’ politics, hailed from the Oguta Local Government Area of the state. The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has announced the release of private candidates’ results for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, 2021-First Series.
