439 Foreign-trained Doctors Failed Competence Exam – MDCN  

A total of 439 foreign-trained medical and dental graduates failed the assessment examination organised by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). The MDCN conducted the two-day assessment examination on November 23 and 24, 2022, at Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto. This was stated by Dr Tijani Sanusi, the council’s Registrar, in an interview with Punch on Sunday. According to Sanusi, 916 foreign-trained medical and dental candidates took the assessment examination but only 477 candidates were successful. 507 Lagos Doctors Migrate To UK In Two Years – NMA

The Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has disclosed that 507 medical doctors practicing in the state relocated to the United Kingdom in less than two years due to poor working conditions in Nigeria. Dr. Benjamin Olowojebutu, the association’s Chairman stated this while interacting with Punch Health Wise. He urged the Federal and State governments to tackle the menace of brain drain in the country’s health sector.   The NMA Chairman said that brain drain has become a serious threat in Nigeria noting that medicine may go into extinction in the country if the menace is not promptly addressed as an emergency. FG Increases Hazard Allowance From N5,000 To N40,000 For Doctors, N34,000 For Others

The Federal Government has increased the hazard allowance for medical doctors and health workers in the country. It was gathered that while the government increased the allowance for doctors from N5,000 to between N32,000 and N40,000; other health workers like nurses, laboratory workers among others had theirs reviewed to between N15,000 and N34,000. This was contained in a circular with reference number SWC/S/04/S.218/11/406 dated December 22, 2021 and signed by the Executive Chairman of the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission. FG To Recover Millions Of Naira Wrongly Paid To 588 Doctors

The Federal Government will recover millions of naira wrongly paid to 588 medical doctors across the country. Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, stated this when he fielded questions from State House correspondents in Abuja. He explained that affected doctors wrongly benefitted from Medical Residency Training Fund meant for a particular category of doctors. He said the names of the doctors were uncovered after a thorough scrutinisation of the 8000 names submitted by Chief Medical Directors of Federal Government health institutions for the training programme. Doctors’ Strike: You have No Justification for Strike – FG

The Federal Government on Wednesday stated that the National Association of Resident Doctors has lost all moral and legal grounds to continue its seven-day-old strike, urging them to call off the action.
