DHQ Reacts to Alleged Coup Plot in Nigeria
The Defence Headquarters on Monday refuted the alleged plot to take over power from President Muhammadu Buhari, pledging its loyalty to the president.
Nigeria had in 1999 returned to democratic rule after decades of military truncation of civilian governments. However, the country has had its fair share of challenges with several quarters clamouring for devolution of powers, fiscal federalism, restructuring and even outright secession.
In its reaction, the DHQ in a statement signed by Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu warned politicians who nurse the ambition to rule Nigeria outside the ballot box, saying the military was committed to defending Nigeria’s democracy.
