BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu Tests Positive For COVID-19

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tested positive for coronavirus. The state health commissioner, Akin Abayomi announced this on Saturday. African News Today had earlier reported that the governor had gone into isolation on Friday following contact with persons infected with the virus. Abayomi said the Governor is currently experiencing “mild symptoms and fatigue typical of a mild case of COVID.” In a statement, he added that Sanwo-Olu is receiving treatment and is being closely monitored at home by a clinical team from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba. “Mr. Sanwo-Olu is doing well on treatment and rest and we are confident that he will recover quickly and clear the virus,” the statement said.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has gone into self-isolation following the news of one of his close aides testing positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. According to a statement by the state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, the unnamed aide was said to have tested positive, necessitating the governor to proceed on self-isolation. The World Bank has estimated that the number of poor Nigerians would rise from the current 90 million to about 100 million by 2022 due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The bank projects that about 11 million more Nigerians would plunge into poverty by 2022 due to the COVID-19 crisis. It equally pegged the financial portfolio approved by its board for Nigeria at about $11.5bn.
