Court To Decide ASUU’s With Withdrawn Salaries – FG

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has said that only the National Industrial Court, NIC, can direct the Federal Government on whether or not to pay the withdrawn salaries of lecturers. Ngige disclosed this in Abuja on Sunday, noting that government was anticipating the NIC verdict of NIC on if the withheld eight-month salaries of the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, should be paid or not. However, the human rights activist and counsel to ASUU, Femi Falana, SAN, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to order the payment of arrears to the university teachers who spent eight months on strike. Reacting to the development, Ngige said: “The matter is in court. We are waiting for the court to call us back. It is part of the substantive issu...

ASUU: Why We Paid Lecturers Half Salaries – FG

The Federal Government has said that it applied pro-rata to determine the half salaries paid to university lecturers under the umbrella of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.   This was contained in a statement by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, noting that ASUU members cannot be paid for work not done. The statement while stating that pro-rata was used to determine the October salary of university lecturers, debunked the speculation that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, directed the Accountant General of the Federation not to pay university lecturers full salary. Ngige Churning Out Fake Figures, ASUU Refutes Claims By Labour Ministry

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has accused Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment of brandishing fake figures that don’t represent the demand of the union. The lecturers also said that Ngige was misinforming President Muhammadu Buhari about the ongoing negotiations between ASUU and the federal government. According to ASUU, the President would not have used a different approach instead of his “Enough is enough” comment if he had been properly briefed. Recall that Buhari while speaking in his country home, Daura warned that the strike would have “generational consequences on families, the educational system and future development of the country.” Reacting, Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU President, while speaking on Channels Television Sunrise Daily pr...

The Vice President, a Professor of Law and a presidential aspirant in next year’s general elections, insisted the Federal Government has never underestimated the importance of labour in the dynamics of politics and good governance. He urged labour to always exercise restraint in their declaration of trade dis...

Ngige Begs Resident Doctors To Reconsider Their Position, Resume Work

Chris Ngige, minister of labour and productivity, has appealed to striking resident doctors to resume work. Speaking on Sunday during an interview on Channels Television, Ngige said the resident doctors should come for discussions after they return to work. Ngige’s Sermon on the Mount, by Femi Adesina

Did you watch the interview granted about 10 days ago by Labour and Employment Minister, Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige, to Channels Television Newsnight program anchored by Ladi Akeredolu Ale? If you didn’t, then you missed something. But not to worry, you can still get to watch it online. I have decided to call it Sermon on the Mountain, according to Dr. Ngige. It was bold, frank, forthright, and something to be highly commended. The medical doctor-turned-politician and now Conciliator General of the Federation parried no question. He answered them all. And most important was that he spoke boldly about the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) at a time most leaders of thought and people of influence in the region were still calling them ‘Unknown Gunmen...
